Welcome to MTDA
On behalf of the MTDA family we would like to thank
you for taking the time to visit the home site for the Multicultural
Tourism Development Alliance where you can learn more about who we
are and what we offer. After spending 27 years with American Airlines I'm thankful
for the opportunity to lead an effort that is focused on preserving
legacy. It is an honor to become a caretaker of the contributions
that have been made by our ancestors throughout the Americas and around
the world.
My motivation for taking this assignment is best
summed up in a poem I read a number of years ago. Although I do not
recall the author I'm compelled to share this with you:
Somebody Else
There's a clever young person named Somebody Else
There's nothing that they can't do,
From morning 'til night they're busy at work Substituting for you.
You're asked to do this
you're asked to do that
And what is your ready reply?
Get Somebody Else to do that job
They'll do it much better than I.
In a world with so much to do,
So much and workers so few.
Somebody Else all tattered and torn
Is still substituting for you.
So, next time you're asked
To do something worthwhile,
Let this become your reply.
If Somebody Else can give time and support
My God then why can't I.
The questions generated by that poem "
IF
NOT ME WHO? IF NOT NOW WHEN?" ultimately led to my
decision to take an early retirement. And so, here I am and the Multicultural
Tourism Development Alliance is my answer. I sincerely hope that you
too can find a reason to protect, preserve
and promote the value and benefits of legacy
within your community and move to join forces with us. Although we
are primarily focused on people of African, Latin/Hispanic, Asian
and Native American descent we are striving for the American ideal
for all. Our society is changing rapidly and future relationships
will depend greatly on an accurate understanding of the past and the
role we've all played in the growth and development of this great
nation.
May God bless and keep you!
Sincerely,
Lou Phililps
President
